The following is a news release from the Hobbs Police Department:

On November 6, 2017 at approximately 11:14 AM, Hobbs Police Officers responded to a shots fired call in the 1000 block of North Turner. Witnesses advised that a male subject had fired multiple gunshots in the vicinity of Lea County State Bank and fled the area. When officers arrived they learned that an armed robbery had taken place at the ATM machine located near the drive though teller lanes and that the suspect had fled the area on foot. The suspect reportedly shot at a bank employee who was attempting to watch the suspect until officers arrived. Hobbs Police Officers working in the intelligence center were able to locate a subject matching the description at the intersection of Sanger and Grimes and directed patrol officers to that location, where Lazarus Shamar Sanders, 19, of Hobbs, was taken into custody without incident. He did have a firearm in his possession in addition to the money taken during the robbery. There were no reported injuries as a result of this incident.

Sanders is charged with Robbery (2F), Aggravated Assault (4F) and Unlawful Carry of a Deadly Weapon (M). He is being held in the Hobbs City Jail pending arraignment.
