Hobbs woman accused of embezzling over $100,000

HOBBS, N.M (KRQE) – A woman embezzled more than $100,000 from her southeast New Mexico employer, the Lea County Sheriff’s Office said.

In July, Lea County Roadside, a towing company, reported its business credit card limit was maxed out, according to the LCSO.

Investigators found out 35-year-old Karrie Torrez, of Hobbs, fraudulently used the credit card and checking account.

Torrez is accused of making personal purchases totaling $144,000.

Last Monday, she turned herself in to deputies and now faces charges including embezzlement and tampering with evidence.
