The following is a news release from the New Mexico State Police:
On Wednesday, August 23, 2017, the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was called to investigate the bookkeeper for the Lea County Community Drug Coalition (CDC) who was suspected of embezzling money from the nonprofit organization.
Through an intensive three month investigation, State Police discovered that Linda K. Norris (35) of Hobbs, wrote 25 fraudulent checks to herself, totaling $22,310, and deposited them into her personal bank account. State Police also uncovered that Ms. Norris used the CDC credit card about 936 times over the course of a year, totaling $33,031 in charges. This brought the total of money taken from the CDC by Ms. Norris to $55,342.
The New Mexico State Police issued a warrant for Ms. Norris’ arrest and on November 29, 2017 at about 3:30 p.m. Ms. Norris was arrested in Midland, TX by Homeland Security Investigations agents. Ms. Norris was charged with one count of Embezzlement over $20,000 and three counts of Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card.
