FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A man who investigators say pointed a loaded rifle at North Texas police during a domestic disturbance call later held a flashlight when an officer fatally shot him.

Fort Worth police on Monday said the officer who fatally shot Cody Wayne Seals was put on administrative leave amid the investigation into Saturday night’s death.

Responding police and the suspect’s family say Seals loaded the rifle, pointed it at officers and then barricaded himself in a house. Police say officers determined Seals had military training, access to weapons and could have post-traumatic stress disorder.

Police say officers were trying to negotiate with Seals when he came out, extended his arms and held an illuminating object consistent with a weapon-mounted light. Seals was shot while pointing the object at Fort Worth police.
