A Longview man accused of firing shots at police near an Academy Sports and Outdoors store was sentenced to 50 years in prison, according to his attorney.
Nathan David Lanicek, 37, entered the guilty plea Wednesday, according to judicial records. He was indicted in February on two counts of aggravated assault of a public servant.
On November 17, 2015, at around 2:45 a.m., Longview police were dispatched to an alarm at Academy Sports and Outdoors. When officers arrived, they found that the glass door had been broken.
Lanicek was found in the rear of the building with an M-4 rifle. He and three police officers engaged in gunfire and Lanicek was seriously injured.
Three officers, identified as Officer Luke Altman, Officer Steven Burt and Detective Brady Welch were placed on paid administrative leave as protocol. They returned to work on December 1, 2015.
