An enormous 177 pound liquid methamphetamine seizure was made by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers Wednesday afternoon at the Paso Del Norte International Port of Entry.
The drugs were hidden inside 64 one-liter plastic bottles which were then stashed inside of the fuel tank of a 2009 Ford Econoline van.
“This is a large amount of a very dangerous drug,” said Beverly Good, CBP El Paso Port Director. “We are working hard every day to stop the flow of drugs and other dangerous items.”
According to CBP officials, the Mexican-national driver entered the port around 3 p.m. and was selected for a secondary exam where the Z-portal x-ray system found some abnormalities in the fuel compartment. The compartment was removed, revealing the large load filled with a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.
The 38-year-old driver was taken into custody and turned over to ICE agents to face criminal charges.
