Through the Texas AIM project, 179 Texas hospitals will begin work to reduce the incidence of obstetric hemorrhage, one of the primary causes of preventable maternal mortality and morbidity. The Texas Hospital Association and the Texas Department of State Health Services will work with these hospitals to implement evidence-based strategies over 18 months with the goal of reducing preventable maternal morbidity and mortality.

Seventy-five percent of the state’s hospitals that provide birthing services are participating in the voluntary AIM initiative.
“Hospitals have a privileged role in so many families’ lives,” said Shaw. “None is more special than to be a part of new life entering the world. That is a trusted role that hospitals cherish. And we honor that role by participating in this work.”
AIM is a national data-driven maternal safety and quality improvement initiative based on proven implementation approaches to improving maternal safety and outcomes in the U.S. The goal is to eliminate preventable maternal mortality and severe morbidity across the country.
THA will provide coaching, support, education and training to participating hospitals and collect data on implementation and outcomes improvement.
