The mother of the young boy abandoned across the border in Ciudad Juárez has been located and is now under arrest, according to El Paso Police.
Ruby Esmeralda Gonzalez, 25, of El Paso is charged with “Abandoning and Endangering Child/Imminent Danger/Bodily Injury” and is being held at the El Paso County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
According to police, Gonzalez left her 4-year-old son at an abandoned warehouse in Juárez back on February 22.
Investigators said she called El Paso police this past Saturday—more than three months later—to report him as kidnapped after she saw her boy’s photo on the news.
Police issued an alert over the weekend in search of the child’s mother. That alert was canceled and investigators said they were coordinating with Mexican authorities as the case moves forward.
At least word, the child, who answers to the name ‘Luis,’ remains under care in Juárez. It was not immediately clear what will happen to him next.
