Newest numbers show help wanted in Texas and in Lubbock

Texas unemployment numbers fell for the 27th consecutive month. New numbers on Friday showed the seasonally adjusted rate was 3.8 percent for Texas.   

In Lubbock, the unemployment rate (not seasonally adjusted) was 3.0 percent making it the 6th lowest metro in Texas.  In the greater Lubbock area, the Texas Workforce Commission said there are 164,700 people in the certified labor force. Of those, an estimated 4,900 were unemployed.  


Over the course of a year, the Lubbock area created an estimated 2,300 net new jobs. 

“Texas employers continue to contribute to our state’s success with private-sector employers adding 16,700 jobs in September and accounting for an impressive 402,500 jobs over the year,” said Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) Chair Ruth Ruggero Hughs.

The Midland area had the best unemployment rate at 2.2 percent.
