The National Weather Service issued an apology after creating a false alarm for a radiologcal hazard alert on Wednesday.
“While attempting to issue the routine weekly test for NOAA Weather Radio, the product for a Radiological Hazard was inadvertently selected and sent. The audio played the weekly test, but the product displayed on NWR as the Radiological Hazard. We apologize for any false alarm or inconvenience that this has caused you all!”
The Shreveport National Weather Service sent the alert around 11:00 a.m. and inadvertently transmitted it through NOAA Weather Radio.
The correct message for the routine weekly test was rebroadcast at 11:10 a.m.
