The Richardson Police Department announced on Sunday the body of small child had been discovered during a search for Sherin Mathews.

According to WFAA-TV, the body was discovered around 11:00 a.m. in a culvert underground during a search operation in the area of Spring Valley and Bowser Road.

Mathews, 3, went missing in the early morning hours of October 7 from her home.

Her adoptive father, Wesley Mathews, was arrested following her disappearance and charged with abandoning or endangering a child. 

According to the arrest affidavit, the father told police during an interview he told the child to stand outside near a large tree around 3:00 a.m. as punishment for not drinking her milk. 

An Amber Alert was issued following her disappearance but was later discontinued. 

The child’s body that was discovered Sunday morning has not yet been properly identified, WFAA-TV reported

The medical examiner’s office is working to confirm the identity.
