A man is arrested in connection with a threat that placed a Clovis middle school on a level one lockdown this afternoon, that according to the Clovis Police Department.
On Wednesday, May 9, at about noon, Clovis Police Department officers responded to 5100 North Thornton Street, Gattis Middle School, in reference to threats.
Officers said they contacted school personnel who relayed information about a Carlos Anchondo, 33, threatening to “shoot up” the school.
Officials said the statement was heard by school employees and relayed to office personnel, and that Anchondo was angry that he had not been given information he wanted about his child’s attendance.
Police said Anchondo was not listed as the primary custodian of the child.
As a result of the threats, Gattis Middle School was placed on a level one lockdown. Officials said officers were stationed at Gattis Middle School in the event Anchondo returned.
As the investigation continued, officers were dispatched to and stationed at the Clovis High School Freshman Academy, 1400 Cameo Street, because another of Anchondo’s children attended that school.
At about 1 p.m., Anchondo was located and detained in the 700 block of Mitchell Street by Officers of the Clovis Police Department and the Curry County Sheriff’s Office.
We are told the schools were taken off of lockdown shortly after it was verified Anchondo was detained.
Anchondo was arrested for interference with members of staff; interference with the educational process.
