The following is a press release from New Mexico State Police: 

On March 26, 2018, at approximately 7:20 p.m., the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was requested to investigate a police shooting involving the Hobbs Police Department.

New Mexico State Police investigators learned that at about 7:00 p.m. Hobbs Police Department officers were attempting to serve a warrant on a homicide suspect on North Coleman Street in Hobbs. The suspect, Jose Acosta (37) of Hobbs, fled the residence in a vehicle driving in the direction of the officers.  An HPD officer fired a shot, striking the vehicle. Mr. Acosta lost control of the vehicle and drove into an electric pole and a fence. The vehicle became disabled and Mr. Acosta was taken into custody.No officers were injured during the incident. Mr. Acosta received minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Mr. Acosta was booked into the detention center in Hobbs.

The name of the officer will not be released until interviews have been conducted. This incident is still under investigation with no additional information currently available. When more information is available it will be provided in a press release.
