A 4-year-old boy, who is now in care of Child Protective Services, said rats and roaches were “his friends” while he was locked in a closet, according to ABC affiliate KTRK-TV.
Authorities raided the house December 20 because they suspected meth was made and sold in the home. Authorities said the 4-year-old was locked in the closet for hours at a time before he was discovered.
The boy also told investigators he was forced to sit on a refrigerator as punishment when he was caught out of the closet, according to KTRK. He was scared he would fall off the tall appliance.
April Burrier, the boy’s mother, was charged with endangering a child. She was not on scene when authorities raided the home and said she thought someone was watching her son.
Robert Dehard, the boy’s father, was in court Tuesday to regain custody, according to the Associated Press. Custody will not be determined until drug test results are available next month.
