Sheriff: Suspects Intentionally Struck Deputy’s Vehicle During Chase

Two suspects have been charged after they reportedly led deputies on a pursuit Sunday. 

The pursuit began at about 12:53 a.m. Sunday when Deputy Cody Smith tried to stop a Hyundai that was reportedly speeding.


Officials say the suspect vehicle immediately sped away from Smith initiating the chase. 

The pursuit, according to the Ector County Sheriff’s Office, reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. 

ECSO officials say the suspect also intentionally struck a deputy’s patrol vehicle during the chase. 

It finally came to an end when law enforcement shot out two tires on the vehicle, according to a release. 

The driver, Steven Saenz, was arrested and charged with: 

The passenger, Sueellen Montoya, was also arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
