Six puppies were killed when a heat lamp caused a 2-alarm fire at a South Abilene home early Tuesday morning.
A press release from the Abilene Fire Department states smoke and heavy flames were coming from a storage building behind a home on the 2400 block of South 3rd Street when fire crews arrived on scene around 5:00 a.m.
The storage building, which was housing 6 one-week-old puppies, was completely destroyed, and several small fires caused by strong wind and fire debris were quickly brought under control, according to the press release.
All puppies died, but no other injuries were reported in connection to this fire, which the press release states has been ruled accidental.
A total of $5,000 worth of damage was caused.
