A Snyder woman has been arrested on federal human smuggling charges after 8 illegal immigrants were found inside her vehicle.
Maria Castenada Garcia, 45, was taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials Tuesday morning then transported to a federal facility in Midland for booking.
The Scurry County Sheriff’s Office told KTAB and KRBC a deputy tried to initiate a traffic stop on Garcia after receiving a tip from ICE that she would be traveling toward Snyder on Hwy 350.
She tried to avoid the deputy by turning into the driveway of a home in the area, but he pulled in behind her, and when ICE agents arrived on scene and searched her vehicle, they discovered the illegal immigrants and she was detained, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
No additional information on this incident was disclosed.
