The following is a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety:

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was called to a one-vehicle vs. pedestrian crash Thursday night on FM-1412 in Deaf Smith County, resulting in the death of one person.

At approximately 9:43 p.m., Cecelia Aguilar, 19, of Hereford, was walking east in the eastbound lane at night on FM-1412  approximately 15 miles north of Hereford.  David Nipp, 35, of Belton, Texas, was driving a 2002 Ford F-350 east on FM-1412 in the same location. Due to the nighttime conditions, Nipp did not see the Aguilar walking in the lane of travel and was unable to avoid colliding into her.

Aguilar was pronounced dead on scene by Deaf Smith County Justice of the Peace, Karen Boren.

Nipp was not injured and he was wearing his seat belt.

Aguilar was wearing headphones while walking down the road.

The road conditions were dry and there were no other vehicles involved.

The crash remains under investigation.
