The Texas Farm Bureau shares it’s thoughts as President Donald Trump’s administration is developing.
The Director of Government Affairs says they have been keeping a close eye on the cabinet selection, and so far they are satisfied.
They say farmers hope some changes happen including getting rid of WOTUS (Water of the United States) regulations.
They say it’s an “over reach” and could cost farmers and other people thousands of dollars in fines.
On the other hand, they hope NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement), which allows farmers to trade outside of the country, to keep the same benefits.
“Between Canada and Mexico, they are our second and third largest trading partners for agriculture products. So we want thoughtful consideration if we do anything with NAFTA, anything with terrorist to make sure we don’t upset the apple cart. We have a very good situation right now, and we want to make sure that continues,” said Regan Beck, Director of Government Affairs.
The farm bureau mentioned two other nominees they hope to see take office:
Scott Pruitt, nominee as the next Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. He is currently the Attorney General of Oklahoma.
Sonny Perdue, nominee for U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. He is the former Governor of Georgia.
