The Marshall, Texas Police Department is offering a deal to Marshall residents on Friday, April 20.
The department is offering to test people’s marijuana for free.
“Just personally deliver your stash to the police department and K9 Amor will check it out,” read a post on the department’s Facebook page. “If it’s real, you could receive a free stay in the finest resort in Harrison County.”
One user said they had 30 pounds of the drug and inquired if K9 Amor could verify the whole lot. Marshall PD responded simply, “Come see us and find out.”

April 20, or 4/20, has long been associated with marijuana use. According to Rolling Stone, the term originated in 1971 when a group of high school students, known as “the Waldos,” found a map that led them to a crop of abandoned cannabis plans near San Francisco. They met after school at 4:20 to see if the map was real. While Rolling Stone said the group never found the marijuana, the term 420 became part of their vocabulary. Rolling Stone said the Waldos had close ties to members of the Grateful Dead, which helped the term “420” spread into mainstream use.
