Texas Ranks 20th Best for Teachers Says Wallethub

Wallethub ranked Texas as the 20th best state to be a teacher for 2017.  The rankings were released Monday.

The rankings were based on factors that included teacher pay, quality of school system, pupil to teacher ratio and teacher safety.

Texas ranked 4th best for opportunity and competition but 46th in academic and work environment.

New Mexico ranked 44th, Oklahoma ranked 42nd, Colorado ranked 33rd, Arkansas ranked 34th, and Louisiana ranked 46th.

Wallethub said, “[The] combination of job pressures, low pay and lack of mobility forces many teachers to quit soon after they start, a pattern that has led to a perpetual attrition problem in America’s public schools.”

Texas ranked poorly for teacher turnover rates, according to Wallethub.
