The Texas Department of Public Safety on Thursday released details about a deadly crash in Winkler County that happened Tuesday morning.  

DPS said an 18-wheeler was going south on State Highway 115 about 12 miles south of Kermit.  DPS said the 18-wheeler slowed down and the driver used his left turn signal as he approached a private road. 

DPS said the driver of a pickup truck, Salvador Villalobos-Zambrano, 43, of Denver City, was also going south and “failed to control” his speed.  

The pickup hit the 18-wheeler according to DPS.

DPS said Villalobos-Zambrano was pronounced dead at the scene.  A passenger in the pickup truck, Rigoberto Chavez, 41, of Denver City, was also pronounced dead at the scene.  

Two other passengers were hurt, DPS said.  The driver of the 18-wheeler was not hurt.  DPS said conditions were dry and clear.
