Doss was killed when she was struck by a vehicle just west of Abilene, on the south service road of I-20 near mile marker 276, between Tye and Merkel at about 8:15 p.m., Saturday.

According to the Border Patrol, Doss was struck by a passing vehicle while she was helping DPS determine a subject’s alienage during a vehicle stop.
DPS said Doss was walking south across the access road when she was struck by the westbound vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 79-year-old Merkel man. KTAB/KRBC is witholding the man’s identity unless he becomes charged with a crime.
The crash remains under investigation.
The Abilene Police Department said it is helping with the investigation.
“We have been in contact with all involved agencies, both that night and again today.” said Abilene Police Chief Stan Standridge. “APD used its drone to assist DPS with aerial photography today. We will provide any and all services that might be asked of APD.”
An outpouring of support and prayers has already started on social media.
“Ed and I send our condolences and prayers to this agent’s family and the law enforcement community,” tweeted State Senator Dawn Buckingham.
“Sad to hear of the death of BP Agent Donna Doss,” said Senator Ted Cruz. “Please join me in praying for her family in the wake of their loss. Let us always remember & remain grateful for the Border Patrol Agents & their families who make courageous sacrifices to protect Texas & our country. “
“Our hearts are heavy to hear of the passing of Border Patrol Agent Donna Doss, who was killed in the line of duty last night,” said Congressman Jodey Arrington. ”This is yet another reminder that our border patrol agents and other law enforcement officers put themselves in harms way day in and day out to keep our communities safe.
“Few people in their lifetime will earn the title of hero – Donna Doss unequivocally did.
“Anne and I extend our deepest condolences to the Doss family and the entire Abilene community.”
