In November, a Ruidoso police officer was involved in a deadly shooting. On Wednesday, KRQE aired video of the incident.

Officer Robert Rushton tried to stop Johnathon Brownell, 28, and Marlysa Sanchez, 31, outside a home. Both were suspected of burglary and were in separate vehicles.

The officer shot and injured Brownell.  He also shot and killed Sanchez.

In the video the officer can be heard saying, “Stop right there. Stop right there. Stop it!”

Video shows Brownell driving slowly toward the officer.

The officer can be heard saying over his police radio, “He’s gonna run me over!”

“I will kill you!  Stop!”

The video then shows Sanchez ram the officer’s patrol unit which is nearby.

Moments later, the video shows the officer firing at Brownell. Then it shows Sanchez knock him over with the vehicle she was driving.

The officer then fired at Sanchez.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brownell has been charged with aggravated battery upon a peace officer, and assault with intent to commit a violent felony on a peace officer.

“Rushton would decide he’s done with being a cop after this experience,” KRQE reported on the air.
