Several streets in south and southwest Lubbock flooded Wednesday afternoon due to the rain.
Some residents who live near 60th and Slide Road said they are used to seeing water on their streets, but not as much as they saw Wednesday.
“We’ve lived here almost 40 years, this is the first,” Sharon Mitchell said.
She said the water covered her front lawn at one point.
“Flower pots were floating away and we were standing, watching to see if water was going to go into our garage,” Mitchell said.
Only a few blocks away, Donna Cheshire said she drove home Wednesday afternoon, but had to park down the street from her home because of all of the water in the streets.
Cheshire said once she parked, she got some help from a police officer who was nearby.
“I parked my car because I couldn’t get home, and so we [the officer and Cheshire] walked from there but we walked up close to the houses, because we couldn’t see the street, we couldn’t see the yard, we couldn’t see the curbs, so he helped me so I wouldn’t fall,” she said.
“I got down here and there’s water in my house, about ankle deep and the stuff that has floated off of my porch,” Cheshire said.
