A suspect accused of placing racist signs along an elderly woman’s property in Ranger has been arrested.
Cynthia Moore, 54, was taken into custody and charged with Harassment on August 5, 2017, two weeks after the signs were found along property owned by 94-year-old Elvira Short.
Short told KTAB and KRBC she was involved in a dispute with Moore regarding a fence on their property line, and during the dispute, Moore accused Short of trespassing and dumping items onto her side. Short says Moore made several harassing phone calls about these allegations, but police were not notified until the incident escalated.
Short says these allegations aren’t true, but soon after they were made, Short’s landscaping crew found signs plastered around her property that called Short the “village idiot” and included racist comments like “official runnin’ n***** target” on several of the signs.
The signs also stated, “all body shots count & shots to the head do not count unless metal piercing cartridge is used” and that “heel shot counts 100!”.
Members of Short’s family say they were hurt when they learned what the signs said, but Short told KTAB and KRBC she doesn’t hate Moore, just her ways.
