Michael Koch, the man wanted in connection to the murder of a Smith County K9 Officer has been arrested.
Koch, 35, was taken into custody Saturday morning in Dallas.
He has been on the run since Tuesday, January 19, after allegedly running from authorities during a traffic stop near Lindale. The Smith County Sheriff’s Office says that during the pursuit he shot and killed K9 officer Ogar.
Officer Ogar had been partnered with Precinct 5 Constable Deputy Kevin Petty a little more than a year when he was killed.
Koch is expected to be charged with interference with police service animals by killing, a second degree felony.
Ogar’s body has been sent to Texas A&M to undergo a necropsy for a DNA swab. A memorial service will be held on Saturday in Lindale at the First Baptist Church.
