The suspect in an officer-involved shooting Friday morning in Eastland County near Clyde died. On Saturday, DPS publicly identified him as Matthew Gambaro, 26, of Ft. Worth
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a one-vehicle crash was reported along Interstate 20 at mile marker 327 around 7:30 a.m. on Friday.
Several calls were made to law enforcement after the crash concerning a man in the vehicle who was seen running from the scene with a gun in his hand.
DPS officials said around 1:15 p.m., officers spotted the suspect (later identified as Gambaro) still with the gun in his hand near mile marker 329 on the shoulder of the eastbound lane.
Troopers with DPS and Texas Rangers approached the suspect giving him verbal commands to drop his weapon. Officials said he did not comply.
According to the preliminary statements from DPS, the suspect raised his gun to his head and shot himself.
DPS Officials confirmed the suspect was also shot by a DPS Trooper.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. It was not yet clear which shot was fatal.
