A suspicious package prompted the closure of Big Spring High School Monday, but has since been identified by school officials as a device used to record seismic data, according to a release from the Big Spring Police Department.
The device was found early Monday morning in the parking lot of Big Spring High School, officials with the district said in a release.
Shortly after the device was found officials delayed, and eventually canceled, class at Big Spring High School. All other campuses are on normal schedule, according to information in the release.
Officials with the district identified the device as a “FairField Node” which collects seismic data.
After the package was identified, police officials determined that it posed no threat to students or staff, however the high school remains closed for precautionary reasons, according to the release.
