Lubbock’s Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission said they will increase their undercover officers and patrol routes for the 4th of July weekend.

“We’ll keep up with our undercover operations we do on a weekly basis,” TABC’s Lieutenant Brian Williams of the Enforcement Division said. “We may add an extra night or two of that. And then we got guys that go out and do regular, what we used to call the inspections, you know, the walk-through, they’re dressed just about like this through the bar check and see what’s going on.”

Williams mentioned another way they are upping security is by teaming up with Lubbock Police. He said they taught about thirty officers how to look out for alcohol violations and other safety codes.

“We work very closely with the Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission,” Lubbock Police’s Lieutenant Ray Mendoza. “They often get new information and so they like to share that with our officers so that our officers can be aware of what signs to look for especially who we’re dealing with in alcohol violations.”

Mendoza said they typically find underage drinking violations. However, they’ll also be looking for illegal consumption and drunk driving.

He said all Lubbock police officers in town this weekend will be working.
