Are you a fan of South Plains politics? Here are your talking points for this week.

It’s still about shaking hands and kissing babies, but how much of running for public office is about getting someone to write a check? How much are the rules slanted to help the incumbents? We’ll show you an example and let you decide.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton issued an opinion last week in response to a legislative inquiry regarding the legality of online gaming. Paxton said “it is prohibited gambling in Texas if you bet on the performance of a participant in a sporting event and the house takes a cut.”  The opinion makes clear that traditional fantasy sports leagues are, as a general rule, legal under Texas law.

Also this week an inconvenient truth. For as much as we all complain about politicians, back-room deals and laws we don’t like, the truth is that only about a third of the eligible voting population ever casts a ballot.
