This week on “Taking Points with Bryan Mudd” we continue our special series on border security.
Last week, we told you about efforts from the DPS to help with border security. Their task is to stop the flow of illegal drugs from Mexican cartels. But troopers have made very few, major drug smuggling arrests. Instead, the majority of those they arrest are drunk drivers and drug users. We looked at whether it was worth an additional billion dollars to double the number of troopers in border counties. This week we look at prosecuting those criminals they do arrest.
Also this week smugglers blues. When the DPS actually catches these smugglers, it’s then up to district attorneys and judges to decide their fate. Taxpayers here in Texas are paying millions for a border prosecution unit. The unit is often not sending the worst of these criminals to prison.
Talking Points with Bryan Mudd airs each Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. and Sunday evenings at 11:05 p.m.
