Talking Points with Bryan Mudd (2/19/17)

Are you a fan of South Plains politics? Here are your Talking Points for this week.

It happens every legislative session. Dozens of bills filed dealing with abortion rights, which lead to emotional testimony and supports talking about women’s health. An abortion opponent last week called it “our Holocaust.” We’ll look at the three of the thirty bills that might just make it through the session.

The federal government quietly stepped away from the transgender bathroom issue last week. The Supreme Court may still have a say, but likely not until Texas lawmakers have their’s first. We’ll hear from a transgender student caught in the middle of all the politics.

Also this week, we discuss catch and release. It has become a term used by authorities when they let detained, illegal immigrants go due to lack of time, money and resources needed to process their cases. Officers from across the state voiced their concerns last week in Austin. We’ll have more on what is being called “Operation Cross Check.”

Talking Points with Bryan Mudd airs each Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. and Sunday evenings at 11:05 p.m.
