“The time for talk is over,” Texas Senator Ted Cruz told a Tea Party rally in D.C. “If Republicans take this opportunity and blow it, we will be rightly considered a laughing stock.”
Meanwhile, the Texas Legislature proposes limits to how much a local government can raise tax rates without first getting voter approval.
“I think that’s our decision,” said Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope. Pope says most property taxes are levied by schools, not cities, but he feels like the proposal targets Texas cities.
“Are we majoring on the minors?” Pope said.
