Are you a fan of South Plains politics? Here are your Talking Points for this week.

Senator John Cornyn was in Lubbock recently talking about better ways to deal with mentally-ill criminal offenders. He’s got a new bill he says will help. He could have just asked the Lubbock County Sheriff, who’s been a the forefront of working on this issue.

The timing could not be more perfect for Donald Trump’s return to Texas. First, a report about how he avoided a multi-million dollar fine here. Also there was a call from a Texas representative for trump to shove his border wall up the south end of a north bound Republican.

Also this week it’s hard to imagine the desk of a caseworker with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services not being buried under a never-ending pile of paperwork. Each paper represents a child or vulnerable adult that needs help. A recent case in the Dallas area has been one of the motivations for real reform of the DFPS in the state legislature.

Talking Points with Bryan Mudd airs each Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. and Sunday evenings at 11:05 p.m.
