Are you a fan of South Plains politics? Here are your Talking Points for this week.

Last week we showed you Senator Ted Cruz on his recent trip to Lubbock, as part of his “Lets Be Friends” tour. He might also need votes. A new poll finds Cruz’s re-election bid might not be set in stone.

Governor Mike Pence’s “Donald Trump Translation” tour made a stop recently in Roswell, New Mexico. With slipping poll numbers and camaign staff turnoil can Pence say anything to save the show before November?

Also this week we discuss Lubbock ISD’s upcoming Tax Ratification Election. On August 30, Lubbock ISD will ask voters to decide whether the district can shift two cents from the Debt Service tax rate to the Maintenance and Operations tax rate. Shifting these two pennies will allow Lubbock ISD to leverage additional state funds, bringing more than $5.5 million in state and local revenue to Lubbock ISD’s operating budget. This shift does not increase the overall tax rate or extend the amount of time for LISD to pay its debt.
