Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes announced Tuesday morning that he will forego his senior year at Tech and enter the NFL draft.

In the 2016 season, Mahomes had 388 completions for more than 5,000 passing yards.  In 2015, it was 364 completions for more than 4,600 yards.  Mahomes is widely regarded as one of the best college football quarterbacks in the nation.  Despite his talent, Tech went 5 – 7 for the 2016 season.

Mahomes said, “After talking with Coach Kingsbury and my family, we feel like this is the best decision for me and my family.  And this will be the best for my future going forward.”

“With my love for Texas Tech, it was a very hard decision,” Mahomes said.

“I’d like to thank my coaches who molded me… and made me the man I am today – especially Coach Kingsbury who believed in me since I was a lightly recruited recruit out of Whitehouse, Texas.”

Mahomes added, “He’s the reason I’m in this situation I am today.”
