High-tech companies are taking South by Southwest by storm this year. Knightscope, the California based company is at the festival to talk security.

The K3 and K5 Autonomous Data Machines are currently in use in California malls, hospitals, parking garages. The robotic guards are equipped with 4 high-definition cameras, a thermal camera, microphones and GPS technology. The cameras are constantly recording and constantly scanning 360-degrees.

“We have license plate recognition so we can look for people who are criminally trespassing,” said Stacey Stephens, one of the co-founders and vice president of Marketing & Sales. Both K3 and K5 transmits data in real time to a hub manned by a human. That feature helps the security guards do a better job of keeping a building secured.

Allied Universal Security, a large scale security company is on board to help deploy the use of these robots. “You will see them rolling out in Texas this year,” said Mark McCourt vice president of Allied Universal.

Keep an eye out for Knightscope robots could be patrolling public areas around Texas.
