Cyber-Security Badge

Girl Scouts are not gearing up for the cookies sales just yet, but they are getting ready for 18 new badges coming out this Fall.

Girls can already achieve badges mastering STEM activities. But there is a new Cyber-Security badge that will include learning data privacy, cyberbullying, and protecting themselves online.

Older Girls Scouts will be able to learn how to code, become an ethical hacker and how to build firewalls.

Snap Maps

A new Snapchat feature called ‘Snap Maps’ has many users worried. Now you can see exactly what your friends are doing but you can also track them down.

Many parents of the younger Snapchat users are worried that the new sharing feature has gone too far and is putting their child’s privacy at risk.

The latest update will prompt you to either opt-in to sharing your location on Snap Map or staying in ‘ghost mode’ the default setting so you can see others location but they can’t see yours.

According to Snapchat, it’s impossible to share your location with someone that isn’t your friend. You can even select which friends can see your location and which can’t. Even with ‘ghost mode’ some parents fear this type of visibility makes their children vulnerable.

Location sharing isn’t a new thing. Apps like Facebook Messenger and Apple’s Find my Friends allow you to share your specific location with others.

And since this new technology isn’t going away anytime soon experts suggest talking to your kids about who they add on Snapchat being selective about what the word ‘friend’ means and above all stay up-to-date with the latest updates on applications used most by your children.
