Clock Ticking on Windows 7
After 11 years in operation, Microsoft is pulling the plug on Windows 7. The system is running off the 2008 server.
As some have been holding off on updating to Windows 10, Microsoft has said it is giving those avid users of Windows 7 until January of 2020 to switch all of their computers.
Michael Strong with Blue Layer IT recommends that people make the move sooner rather than later.
“Come February 2020, Microsoft will not release patches to repair any issues on Windows 7,” Strong explains. “You can still use the system but you will be more vulnerable to hacks.”
The best practice is always to back-up your operating systems, but you’ll want to do this before making any changes.
If you are worried about the cost of making the switch, Strong said it could cost you more if there is a breach in your system and there are ways for businesses to expense the cost of the new operating system.
