A Lubbock teen continues to recover at University Medical Center after he was shot overnight on Monday. His mother is giving thanks to a Lubbock couple who helped her son in the middle of the night call an ambulance.
Lubbock Police said Milton Charles Gardner,Jr., 17, was shot in the stomach around midnight on Monday and after it happened he went knocking on doors on the 2700 block of 36th street.
Gardner’s family said he knocked on several doors until Tim Brees and his wife answered close to one a.m. and helped him 911.
Gardner’s mom, Sueann Johnson, said she’s so grateful for the couple who opened their doors and helped her son who she says was begging for an ambulance.
Johnson said she bought the couple a thank you letter and fresh tulips.
“Like in this situation you never know what’s going on,” said Johnson. “Who ever knocks on your door- doesn’t mean you have to let each and every one in but, open it. I want to show them how thankful that I really am from me and my family.”
UMC lists the seventeen year old as serious condition.
Lubbock Police are still searching for the shooter. They mentioned that Gardner was not cooperating, but his family said he still needs time to recover before he can recall what happened.
