The City of Temple administrators have confirmed the drinking water for people living there has exceeded the maximum contaminant level.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says extremely high levels of chlorine were added to the water during the disinfection process.
Officials say people who drink about 2 liters a day of Temple’s water can experience liver, kidney, or central nervous system problems.
The city says they’re fixing the problem by using a different way to remove the organic material in the water.
