In late February concerns were raised about a possible case of Hantavirus in Levelland.

But on Friday, in response to a question from EverythingLubbock.com, the Texas Department of State Health Services said a confirmatory test was negative.

That means there is no known Hantavirus case in Levelland or Hockley County, and the investigation is closed.

A spokesman for the DSHS in Austin said, “It’s a test that can have false positives so we always like to do confirmatory tests.”

A store in Levelland was closed in February due to concerns of possible pest infestation in the building’s ceiling.  Mice can carry Hanatavirus.  Three store employees reported flu-like symptoms, and Hantavirus also can lead to flu-like symptoms.

A call to the store on Friday was not answered. Messages were left with the store’s corporate office to seek an update.  A message was also left with the City of Levelland seeking an update.

If possible – this story will be updated to reflect the status of the store.
