Uber is teaming up with college students across the state of Texas to encourage smart choices this summer.  In addition to decreasing the amount of drunk drivers on the road, Uber is encouraging students to use the number of in-app features designed to keep riders safe.

In a video posted online today, students from Texas-based universities including The University of Houston, Texas A&M, The University of Texas, Baylor University, Texas Tech University, Texas Christian University (TCU) and Southern Methodist University (SMU) banded together to share how Uber is helping them plan to stay safe this summer.

“To me having a safe summer means always being aware of my surroundings,” said Rola Ghorab, student at Baylor University. “I like Uber’s Match Your Ride feature because it lets me know who my driver is and what car I’m getting into.”

“Uber’s Share My ETA feature lets my friends know when I get home which is important to me for having a safe summer,” said Eileen Pluard, student at Southern Methodist University.

Some of Uber’s key safety features for college students to keep in mind this summer include:

  • MATCH YOUR RIDE: Confirm your driver’s name, vehicle make and model, and license plate with information displayed in your app.
  • SHARE YOUR LOCATION: Share your trip details in real time – including the specific route and estimated time of arrival – with friends or family at the touch of a button.
  • RATE YOUR RIDE: If you have any questions or need to report an incident, Uber’s customer support team is ready to respond. To send Uber a message, tap the HELP option within your app, select your issue, and share details.

Whether they’re staying in town to continue with classes or internships, spending the summer at home or traveling abroad, students can request a ride in more than 400 cities across the globe.
