The Texas Rangers are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Thursday in Odessa. 

According to the preliminary investigation, officers responded to the 1200 block of Douglas Avenue after a 911 call. Officers with Odessa Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service attempted to negotiate with suspect who was threatening to harm himself.

Odessa Police say they found the suspect in an alleyway. He was doused in gasoline and holding a weapon. 

According to officer statements, the suspect eventually showed a handgun in the direction of police and was shot by law enforcement officers.

The suspect has been identified as Jason Meador, 50, of Odessa.

Meador was transported to Medical Center Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The Ector County Sheriff’s Office says Jason Meador worked for their department from December 1989 to January 1995.
