The following is a news release from Texas Tech University:

The Texas Tech Alumni Association (TTAA) is pleased to announce its 2019 Distinguished Alumni honorees. The three recipients of Texas Tech University’s most prestigious award for 2019 are John Carter, F. Scott Dueser and Kelly Marble.

Carter, a 1964 graduate of the College of Arts & Sciences with a degree in history, is a U.S. Representative for Texas’ 31st Congressional District, which includes Williamson and Bell counties. Since his first election, Congressman Carter has established himself as a leader with the foresight and courage to author and support numerous pieces of legislation that increase the protection of U.S. citizens and bring justice to those who threaten our freedom and way of life.

Carter is one of the few House members who has authored legislation signed into law under Presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump. He was born and raised in Houston and has spent his adult life in Central Texas.

Dueser, a graduate of the Rawls College of Business in 1975 with degrees in finance and accounting, has risen through the ranks of banking in West Texas to become a successful and prominent leader in the banking industry.

Using his status as a community leader, he has been instrumental in the development of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at Abilene. Beyond his work and community service in Abilene, Dueser also has invested in his alma mater and the future of all Red Raiders through his time as chairman of the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents, serving on the board of the Texas Tech Foundation and now as a member of the TTAA National Board of Directors.

Following his graduation in 1984 with a degree in horticulture from the College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources, Marble rose to success early in his career and has excelled as an accomplished florist, event designer and business owner.

During his career spanning more than three decades, he has become known as one of the most innovative and talented designers, has been an industry consultant for international growers and was inducted into the American Academy of Floriculture.

His unique design touch has transformed events as grand as the Academy Awards, as well as numerous Texas Tech and philanthropic events around Lubbock. Marble is a West Texas native, who grew up in Floyd County and has stayed true to his roots by choosing to operate Marble & Company in Lubbock.

The Distinguished Alumni Awards are presented each year to the most prestigious graduates of Texas Tech for their professional achievements, contributions to society and support of the university. Nominations are submitted by members and friends of the TTAA, as well as Texas Tech faculty and staff, while a committee comprised of alumni and university officials reviews the nomination materials and makes the final selections.
