Braving triple-digit temperatures, students arrived to the Texas Tech campus on Monday for Band and Orchestra Camp.

Campers attend ensemble rehearsal, master classes, performances and recitals.

Amy Icossipentarhos, the camp’s Activities Supervisor, said they have found new ways to keep kids safe and hydrated.

“We have jugs of water we have out at every outdoor event including for the twirlers and colorguard. We also send out text messages every day and we have an app that’s called ‘Remind’ that’s a great way to connect with students,” Icossipentarhos said.

Phil Flynn, an Administrator for the camp, said high temperatures can cause dehydration.

“We are constantly communicating with the nurses. We have two nurses that are stationed here at the dorms and every time a student comes by because their nauseous or they’re dehydrated,” Flynn said.

Flynn added the most important thing is to make sure students have an amazing experience and have fun.
