Officials at Texas Tech University’s Financial Aid and Scholarship Office announced the names of 15 students receiving Terry Scholarships, increasing the total number of scholars in the program to 257 with projected contributions to students at Texas Tech reaching nearly $13 million since 2011.

In total, the 2017 freshman Terry Scholar class will be awarded a projected $1,626,000. The actual amount of the award will vary for each scholar depending on other aid and scholarships. More than 500 applications were received by the university for the 15 scholarships offered.

The Terry Foundation provides four-year scholarships for Texas residents attending Texas Tech and several other universities in the state. Terry Scholars are selected from a highly competitive applicant pool of incoming freshmen who demonstrate exceptional leadership, character, financial need and scholastic ability.

·         Kaevyn Maple, from Lancaster (Seminole High School)
·         Montana Chandler, from Crosbyton (Ralls High School)
·         Payton Thomas, from Haskell
·         Sophie Pavlas, from Mount Calm (West High School)
·         Steeley Smith, from Mason
·         Trevor Sullivent, from Buda (Hays High School)

The Terry Foundation was established in 1986 by Houstonians Howard and Nancy Terry out of a desire to help young people help themselves. The foundation’s goal is to strengthen the state of Texas by identifying, developing and supporting Texas high school graduates with high leadership potential.
