Texas Tech Athletics will implement a new clear bag policy for all sporting events beginning this fall.  TTU said the policy will provide a safer environment and speed up the entry process at all athletic events.

The new clear bag policy will limit the size and type of bags fans can bring into the athletic venues. Bags, such as backpacks and diaper bags, will also be prohibited.

Robert Giovannetti, a Senior Associate Athletic Director for Texas Tech, said it was approved purely from a safety issue.

“When you look in the world that we live in today what we’re trying to be is proactive, doing what we can to make sure that our fan experience is as safe as it can be each and every event that we have,” Giovannetti said.

He also said many schools in the Big 12 will switch to a clear bag policy.  He said some universities, like Michigan, don’t even allow bags in the stadium.

“We are trying to do our best to not only provide a safe environment but also we’re trying to help out our fans. We’re providing a clear tote bag to our season ticket holders and Red Raider Club members, so we are going to send those out or give it to them with their season tickets,” Giovannetti said.
