Texas Tech Parking Services kicked off their new citation dismissal program ‘Pop Tarts For Tickets’, which allows for anyone who has an unpaid citation on the Tech campus to have it dismissed by bringing poptarts into the parking office. The parking services marketing director, Stacy Stockard said this is their third dismissal program within the last decade.
“So if you have a citation you’ll need to bring in Pop Tarts that are at least equal to the value of your citation,” said Stockard. “Make sure to bring your receipt to prove their value.”
There are a few citations that are not eligible for the dismissal, for example, if someone parks in an handicapped spot. The program partnered with the ‘Lubbock Junior League’ specifically with their ‘Food 2 Kids’ program which helps to provide food for hungry LISD students. Volunteer coordinator, Andrea Bodine said there are a lot of students who come to school just to eat.
“So what we do is send home a sack of food every Friday for these kiddos to eat so that when they come back to school on Monday they are ready to go and learn,” said Bodine. “People always ask ‘Why Pop-Tarts?’ but why not Pop tarts? What kiddo do you know that doesn’t love a Pop Tart?”
On the first day of the program, they already got three boxes of Pop Tarts. Other students, like Freshman Kinesiology student who said she has already gotten 12 tickets in her short here on campus but it was because she accidentally put the wrong license number.
“They were able to only turn it into two tickets to make the cost a little lower so I only have to pay $30,” said DeWinee. “To make it a little bit nicer.. I’m going to pay my tickets with Pop Tarts.”
